Carbon-Smart Solutions

OPENING A NEW ERA OF RURAL PROSPERITY

We work to prove that rural communities that choose
innovation and truly engage in public–private initiatives
are on sure way to a sustainable and wealthier future.

Mission

Reveal biochar as a future-defining commodity across industries.

Biochar's value goes beyond its inherent traits; it emerges from its regenerative nature linking communities and industries into sustainable relationships that reinforce its ecological and economic balance.

Waste to Biochar

We give new purpose to organic waste typically burned or left to rot, converting a variety of local biomass types into high-quality biochar and creating value where only emissions or decay existed before.

Rural Community Integration

KOROS does business within rural communities, anchoring its operations by fostering active co-participation among local public and private stakeholders. In this way, we ensure that progress is created with the community, and not merely around it.

Biochar-Driven Circular Economies

We design each projects to forge closed-loop systems built around local actors whose complementary activities create integrated value for the community. Biochar production plays a central role in this dynamic, enabling circular flows to exist within local value chains and setting sustainable economic model.

LEAD INVESTORS

Freya

Freya is a firm led by four Spanish and Spanish-Filipino professionals that, for more than a decade, has established itself as one of the leading renewable-energy consultancies in the Philippines. Today, Freya provides development services for over 2 GW of projects on behalf of international clients, and since 2023, the firm has been investing heavily in sustainability-driven innovation initiatives.
After three years of development, Koros has emerged as Freya's flagship venture. Its vision for biochar has evolved into an innovative technological and investment platform that addresses critical systemic challenges across Southeast Asia - including food security, rural exodus, and shortage of clean-energy investment in small grids.

KEY PARTNERS

University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB)

We are honored to count UPLB—widely recognized as one of Southeast Asia's leading institutions in agriculture, forestry, environmental science, and biotechnology—as a core partner. Through a formal collaboration agreement, KOROS works closely with UPLB to co-develop our biofertilizer and green-materials solutions, applying and testing its biochar research in real-world, community-embedded projects.

UPLB's involvement ensures that every formulation and material solution is grounded in rigorous academic research, adapted to local soil and environmental conditions, and delivered with institutional quality standards.
"We in the Agricultural Systems Institute-College of Agriculture, UPLB is excited to work with Freya and Koros on this project. We are especially blessed to work with like-minded organization that promote soil health, circular agriculture and sustainability while uplifting the lives of Filipino farmers."

Province of Camiguin

The Provincial Government of Camiguin has been a crucial partner in enabling KOROS to bring our carbon-smart initiatives from concept to reality.

Although a small island province in Northern Mindanao with just over 80,000 residents, Camiguin stands out as a forward-thinking community. Their leadership together with the community's strong engagement in energy, biochar, and agricultural projects has created the ideal environment for KOROS to implement pilot its solutions.

Today, Camiguin represents the first living example of what becomes possible when public and private stakeholders align around a shared vision.
